Variance is a young trader, one of the many sons of the Family. He grew up off planet but spent most of his life living on the Vella Crean: what life he remembers. Under the wise but somewhat bossy guidance of the matriarch Samra, the Family flourished; before the Wars.
During the wars, what family remained on the Vella Crean closed ranks. They did not bond dragons to fill the Wings, to fight the War. They tightened around their Family and survived a bitter decade.
The minute the Vella Crean reconnected with the rest of the Nexus, the matriarch of the Family shifted her focus.
She began seeding her siblings: brothers and sisters first, then nieces and nephews. Out into the Nexus to bond, to form relations and to establish trade.
